Having then completed this course, you will be Certificated by Promoting Excellence.

To highlight best practice to stimulate fresh thinking and new ideas.
How to use this course
Welcome to this Promoting Excellence course in Subject and Curriculum Leadership.
Below are a series of downloads for you. Taken together, they will lead you, in a modular basis, through the whole of our Promoting Excellence 'Curriculum and Subject Leadership' course, and will conclude with a certificate that you can download to show you have successfully completed the training - and have been officially certificated by Promoting Excellence Limited.
Each of the six modules, plus the introductory module, has video narration, so you are best to complete the course where sound will not disturb others around you. The course is linear, so you should start by downloading and completing the Introduction, followed by Module ONE, Module TWO and so forth. Your password and login ID gives you access to this course and all its pages and modules, in most cases, for a full year from purchase, so you will not need to rush, but can work methodically. Some downloads are quite large - up to 50MB or so - so you should only download the module upon which you are currently working, before progressing to the next one and downloading it when you are ready. Downloading everything in one go will put strong and excessive load on the document delivery server and should be avoided.
Where a module has worksheets, bonus materials and handouts, these are listed below, in the order you will need to download them. Not all courses, and not all modules have worksheets or handouts, but where they do, they are listed below for you to download and use.
All modules are in Microsoft PowerPoint Show format. You need a copy of PowerPoint on your device to view them properly. The workbook is in PDF interactive format. The free PDF Reader from Adobe is the best way of ensuring complete functionality (the PDF viewers built-into browsers such as Chrome, Edge and Firefox do NOT offer the full PDF specification).
Certification
When you reach the conclusion of the course, you will be able to click a link to your Promoting Excellence certificate, which can be personalised with your name and the date of the award.
Is the course for an individual, or a group? Will they use this differently?
The course has been written for use by BOTH individuals AND small groups. An individual will need to reflect on some of the ideas raised, and to jot down their thoughts. They may like to then discuss their ideas with peers, or a competent leader. A small group will find benefit in discussing the ideas and issues raised as a group, and perhaps agreeing on joint actions.
Aims
To provide advice and support for Subject and Curriculum Leaders.
To provide a practical reference for current and aspiring practitioners.
To highlight best practice to stimulate fresh thinking and new ideas.
To help you become a fantastic Curriculum and/or Subject Leader.

MODULE ONE - Reaching for Excellence - It's Up (or Down) To You? (ppsx file). This module discusses why we want to be (or to become) a subject or curriculum leader -what are the great features of the role? The module considers role-models and presents the 10 essential elements of an excellent leader.
The Seven Key Values and Qualities of a great Subject or Curriculum leader are tabulated so that you can assess your own practice and understand where improvement might be possible.
---
MODULE TWO - Creating the Right Foundations (ppsx file)
Creating the best foundations requires three key elements:
1. The Learning Environment
2. Setting High Expectations
3. Demonstrating High Standards
A diagnostic is provided so you can assess the current learning environment and your performance management against best practice, consider the actions you can take, and draw up priorities.
The Ideal aims and qualities for a Subject and/or Curriculum Leader are discussed and Fourteen Tips are supplied to help you meet these.
---
MODULE THREE - Getting the Curriculum Right (ppsx file)
This module explains how to design and implement a curriculum that will serve as your torch and your guide for years to come. From 'Starting Points', through 'What Students Need to Know' 'What to Consider' and to 'Putting Pen to Paper', this is an immensely practical 'how to guide' concerning what makes an effective curriculum, that will both succeed and endure.
---
MODULE FOUR - Building a Winning Subject or Curriculum Team (ppsx file)
This module looks at excellent subject and curriculum teams and how to build them. Two theories of team dynamics and composition are presented and you can explore your current team's makeup in the light of these (Katzenbach and Smith, and R.Meredith Belbin). A structured approach is used so you can determine what makes good teams function so well, but is something not shared by underperforming groups. You then explore how to introduce or build upon this and bring those groups up to the standards of the best.
The module presents Ten Suggestions to Improve Your Subject or Curriculum Team.
Subject Leadership is specifically considered - you explore what good (and better) lessons ought to look like, consider appreciation and affection, and how learners can truly experience your subject. The module concludes with a study of Subject Drivers.
---
MODULE FIVE - Achieving and Sustaining Excellence (ppsx file)
Module Five considers subject knowledge and leadership experience, balancing the two in the pursuit of the best outcomes for all. A self-assessment diagnostic is provided for Management and Leadership Expertise, to provoke reflection and self-development, and the use of mentors and 'critical friends' is proposed. The Module concludes with the Seven Qualities of Good Leaders.
---
MODULE SIX - Final Thoughts and Conclusions (ppsx file)
We look here at the context of the Curriculum or Subject Leader within the overall leadership structure of the School or College. What support do you need from Senior Leadership? What support ought you to give to your colleagues and team members, and to other subjects and teams?
Fourteen reflective questions are supplied to help inform and even further develop your current practices. These are particularly relevant for leaders who have direct management responsibility for teams and departments.
You can now download your certificate and the link is given in this module.
